The hake products produced by Selecta Sea Products bear the bold blue logo of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the world’s leading certification and eco-labelling program for sustainable, wild-caught seafood. The South African trawl fishery (from which Selecta hake products are sourced) was first certified by the MSC as sustainable and well managed in 2004. Since then, the fishery has been regularly assessed and it has continued to meet the strict standards of the MSC. It was last certified as sustainable and well-managed by the MSC in 2015 and the fishery will be due for re-assessment in 2019.
Selecta Sea Products’ parent company, Sea Harvest, is a founder member of the Responsible Fisheries Alliance (RFA), a partnership of like-minded organisations including WWF-South Africa, Birdlife South Africa, and five leading fishing companies. The RFA is committed to the continuous promotion and implementation of responsible fisheries practices.
